Student Maps Privacy Policy

Student Maps ("Student Maps", "we", "us", "our") operates the Student Maps iOS application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

1. What we collect

Account information

  • Email address (required to create and access your account).
  • Display name (optional).
  • Profile information you choose to add (for example, an avatar if you upload one).

Content you create in the App

  • Spots you suggest or edit (such as name, category/type, tags, and coordinates).
  • Votes (for example, tag voting and spot/venue voting).
  • Reviews and ratings, if you submit them.

Location data

  • If you grant permission, the App can access your device location to center the map and show nearby spots.
  • We do not need location permission to browse the App, but some features may work better with it enabled.

2. How we use information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • To show spots on the map and enable filters based on tags, type, and opening hours.
  • To power community features such as tag voting, spot/venue voting, reviews, and favorites.
  • To maintain the integrity of the platform (prevent abuse, spam, and fraud).

3. Cookies & Analytics

  • We use cookies to see which parts of our map are popular and to fix bugs.
  • If you choose "Accept all", we use Google Analytics to help us improve.
  • If you choose "Necessary only", we disable all tracking scripts and onlysave your preference so we don't ask you again. No personal data is sold to third parties—ever.

4. Service providers and third parties

We use service providers to operate the App. These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the service:

  • Supabase (backend hosting, database, and authentication). Privacy Policy.
  • Apple and Google (only if you choose Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In).
  • Apple MapKit (map rendering).

5. Data retention

  • We keep account and community content for as long as your account is active.
  • You can request deletion of your account; when deleted, we remove or anonymize personal data.
